‘We know they are lying, they know they are lying, they know we know they are lying, we know they know we know they are lying, but they are still lying.’ - Solzhenitsyn
Why do the elite media, political and academic class lie about everything? Is it the usual motivation of seizing more money, power and control? Or is it perhaps tactical, to conceal what they’ve done or who they really are? Given they lie about certain individuals (e.g. Trump, Elon Musk etc), could it be jealousy for their public adoration? They also lie about groups (e.g. white people), so could it be they see them as a threat? To answer, lets first discuss who the elites are.
Who are the elites?
It’s easy to imagine some hush-hush meeting in a smoke-filled room by the captains of industry and some slimy senior politicians. It’s far more mundane. It’s simply people in positions of hard or soft power with overlapping interests. It’s (especially) the permanent heads of government departments , members of parliament and congress etc, heads of NGOs, influential figures in media, tech, banking, education, health-care, food, military and even, if willing to cooperate, influential celebrities. As the pulling up of the U.S.A.I.D. rock from the soil to reveal the slugs and cockroaches underneath shows, these are the earnest faces you’ve seen whose voices usually speak of generosity and equality.
Why do they lie?
These elites are very powerful, very successful people. When you meet them they’ll have a crowd around them, making sure their every need is met. Everything you or I want or need or struggle to maintain, they already have at their fingertips. They don’t need anything. They don’t need to care what the general public thinks.
But that’s not entirely true. It certainly seems that way, but you are indulging in projection if you believe the elite are unaffected by public opinion. Their reality is quite different. Fundamentally, there are many incentives for elites to lie, but there are only three core reasons ...
1. Psychological: narcissistic supply & approval seeking
2. Materialistic: no amount of power/control/money ever satisfies
3. Simple revenge
1. Psychological: narcissistic supply & approval-seeking
The elite’s rise to the top can seem unduly accelerated (e.g. AOC) or nepotistic (e.g. Justin Trudeu). This can induce inescapable feelings of guilt that their success is unearned. What we proles calls impostor syndrome, but on steroids. This will surface regularly in their thoughts and so has to be psychologically attended to. When they feel guilty they lie as a ‘spiritual’ catharsis - a release from the guilt of being them. That manifests as a yearning for approval in order to cover the wound.
So they lie about how virtuous they are or they attempt to demonstrate it in extravagant, performative ways. It may range from AOC dramatically breaking down in a car park whilst pretending it was a migrant centre1. Or Sadiq Khan’s £6 million rebrand of London Overground, including to reflect queer histories, a characteristic muslims actually hate.
But deep down they are corrupt to the core. They cannot stand the pervasive contradiction between their self-image and their actual self. We’ve all seen politicians and media figures (whether Justin Trudeau2, Rachel Ziegler3 or the EU Security Conference Chief4) cry on camera as they implore people to admire how good they are. Especially compared to the nasty fascists who say hurtful words.
Their lies and emotionality are a narcissistic supply. It fills the gap of the only thing they cannot buy; integrity & self-esteem. It does not create those virtues because it’s impossible to create virtue that way. Integrity is binary, you either have it or you don’t. Self-esteem has to be painstakingly built over time, by congruent, values-based action, not by a pantomime of thin words and thinner meaning. But it won’t stop them trying because they cannot face the alternative of confronting their own corruption. So they become obsessed with approval; the image of ‘being good’. They will conspire against the whole of humanity if they have to, in the attempt to satisfy it.
2. Materialistic: no amount of power/control/money ever satisfies
Not all elites reach the top undeservedly. Some traded in a normal life to reach the zenith in their field so they have no correspondence with guilt. At least not the guilt associated with impostor syndrome. This category of elites are the ones who unapologetically lie for even more money and power.
So why does this segment of the rich and powerful lie when they don’t need to? To understand this is it is worth quoting John D Rockefeller who, when asked ‘How much is enough?’, said ‘Just a little bit more.’ That quote is apocryphal but even if untrue it still captures the essence of material wealth’s inability to satisfy. Meaning does not come from wealth and power.
Anyone who wins money knows it. They will play that same lottery the next day. Anyone who has a pay rise, knows it. Three months later they are used to the new normal and still strive for a bit more. What happens if that yearning never stops? What happens if you are pragmatic-turned-morally corrupt, you are never admonished and you don’t mind stepping on the less important to achieve ‘a little bit more’?
So these elites lie due to untethered greed. Early-in-life pragmatism (no-one we know gets hurt) leads to malfeasance (no-one will find out) in the rapid acquisition of things, not values. This is definitely not to say greed is bad; the word untethered is important here. Instead, it is to say that when coupled with an unprincipled moral framework, untethered greed ferments a capacity for lies. It also couples neatly with the lure of psychopathic, compulsive liars to media and politics in the first place.
3. Simple revenge
The third and final reason they lie is in the service of revenge. This is the source of the sub-set of elites avenging the blood-libel of claimed crimes against their ancestors in World War Two5. It is their life’s work to exterminate the group who did it by the slow, careful dismantling of everything that they need to exist as a people - their culture, heritage, nations, religion, history, meritocracy, and freedom. This situation is not realistically solvable in a rational or legal way so that is where my interest ends. See a related analysis of this in ‘FutureDad 44: Sand War Disinterest’.
Elite lies of modern times
Having explored the mind-set behind the lies, let’s explore some of the more notable lies themselves. There are many more beyond this, as I described in ‘FutureDad 2: Lies - Life's Deep Water’ but this is an essay, not an encyclopedia. So, here are a few examples in roughly chronological order: -
Global Cooling (1960s-1970s)
It is perhaps a shock to the denizens of the 21st century that there was a Global Cooling crisis in most of the 60s & 70s6. The LA times reported ‘End of World Feared With Another Ice Age’7. Then, by the 80s, all the activists-cum-scientists and grifting politicians realised their thermometers had been upside down! It was a Global Warming crisis all along. Scientific papers were even adjusted ex post to reflect the new thinking8. You see, we have always been at war with Eastasia.
Then, the elites settled on Global Climate Change to be able to extract tax and destroy your country’s energy infrastructure either way. As Scott Adams says in Win Bigly - ‘Create Two Ways To Win, No Way To Lose’.
The 1970s population explosion (1970s)
This Malthusian narrative was that the public had to be convinced population growth was the biggest threat to humanity9. When, in fact, devastating feminist anti-natal missiles were already in flight and would destroy birth-rates for the next century. See ‘FutureDad 32: The Fertility Rate Crash has One Cause’. In this particular case it is a wilful misinterpretation of a chart showing the population line going up geometrically steeply. It’s a close cousin of the ‘GDP line-go-up’ obsession prevalent in current-year socialist Britain.
China suffered the most from this misinterpretation by asking the rocket scientist Song Jian10 to develop its population growth models11, leading to its one-child policy and its population collapse of the 2020-2030s.
Thalidomide (1970s)
This was a treatment for morning sickness in the 1970s which caused damage to the foetus such that the baby was born deformed12. The treatment was deemed at the time as ‘safe and effective’, a phrase very familiar to us in the 2020s (see ‘FutureDad 35: Covid Part III - The Lies of Lockdown (LOL)’). It introduces a now-familiar category of coordinated expert malfeasance: medical doctors lying for gain. It’s actually nothing new. Once upon a time it was ‘20,000 doctors agree that Lucky Strike cigarettes are the best’.
Food pyramid (1970s-2000s)
This is the diagram by which, conventionally, people are advised to eat as much as eleven servings of bread, rice and pasta a day and only two of meat, poultry, eggs etc13. It had its origins in the grain surplus of the 1970s. This lead to elites in the USDA heavily promoting the necessity of grain to the public - it was half of the ‘food wheel’, and then it became a pyramid. The food pyramid continues to this day.
This has special significance to me. It started me on my red-pill journey. It was the first major commonly accepted ‘knowledge’ that I discovered was a lie, thanks to the Atkins low-carb diet.
Live Aid (1980s)
This was the campaign of emotional-blackmail to feed Ethiopia because they were starving with no reason provided beyond ‘crops failing’. It was orchestrated by a snarling rock-star with a drug-addicted ex-wife and daughter. I re-examined it years later and discovered that the Ethiopian famines were actually caused by a communist land-grab and much of the aid money bought weapons14. Nothing of that was ever mentioned in the original campaign. It was instead framed by degenerate celebrity and media elites as the responsibility of the western working class to feed Ethiopia.
Chernobyl (1980s)
The famous partial nuclear meltdown in the socialist Soviet Union in 1986. It was seemingly caused by lies at every link in the chain, from the flawed nuclear-plant design to misincentivised safety drills. As the quote from the powerful 2019 miniseries goes: ‘When we lie, we owe a debt to the truth’. The elites in this case lied to the public as long as they could until (and only until) the pressure of continent-wide radioactive poisoning forced the truth out. The communist lying by default franchise has expanded since then - as the historian, Professor Nial Ferguson points out, The West has become Soviet Union 2.0.
Ozone Hole expansion (1980s)
This was a brief but headline-hitting lie in the mid-to-late 1980s. The claim was of ozone-layer thinning over the Antarctic and it was propagandised as spelling doom for civilisation15. It was in reality a temporary phenomenon and likely part of a natural cycle. It disappeared from the public eye when reality couldn't be denied any longer.
No-one has since revisited the scaremongering and offered a mea culpa. They believe in honour only for violent criminals they release early from jail. The legacy of it was clear however. The pretend atmosphere-destroying potential of human activity paved the way for ...
Global Warming (1980s-2020s)
Unlike Global Cooling, this grand narrative really caught the imagination. It is part of the elite’s never-ending objective to thin the world’s population and stop them infesting the nicer beaches or becoming successful and building McMansions next door. You know it’s a ruse when the same elites continue to buy the best beach front property16 and fly private jets to pick up their hat17.
Meanwhile, you must turn the heating off, walk to work, eat cockroaches, drive at 20kmh whilst they carpet bomb the landscape with windmills, all to stop the planet rising by two Celsius. Just a recap, the process of science is by (a) experimentally testing a hypothesis and (b) making accurate predictions within the error bounds. If the predictions are wrong you throw the science out. Climate change ‘science’ has a five decade record of not predicting anything correctly18. What you certainly don’t do in any science, is call the detractors, ‘deniers’. I deal with it in its entirety in ‘FutureDad 59: Climate Change is Not Even Wrong’.
Immigration (1990s-2020s)
I cover this extensively in ‘FutureDad 33: How and Why the UK Will Collapse’ and ‘FutureDad 58: Mass Immigration is Worse than War’. Everyone’s favourite genocidal war-criminal Tony Blair’s Labour party kicked it off in the UK with the establishment of membership of the ECHR and HRA. It has meant even the subsequent Brexit result two decades later wouldn’t derail it: immigration changed from a few tens of thousands a year to one million net, under both Labour and Tories.
What was the lie? Firstly, the intent to be obscured was to throw immigrants at the slow-moving welfare collapse. The lie was that immigrants increase the GDP. The lie started to lose its lustre when it became evident GDP per capita (a persistent Achilles heel of the left) had stalled since around 200719. The treasury department didn’t care, their excel spreadsheet told them the GDP line had to go up to save the country (and damn your lying eyes).
The Bin Laden fortress complex (2000s)
This lie was promulgated by the military & media industrial complex at the behest of government Neo-con elites. It was that the architect of the 9-11 terror attacks was alive and well and plotting his next Bond-villain move20. It was used to extend project fear, and help justify the continued trillion-dollar military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The fortress complex was never found and no real evidence came under public scrutiny. The elites are in the clear - the public has the attention span of a teenage girl with an iPhone.
Iraqi WMD (2000s)
This was an especially lucrative narrative in 2003 which took the west into the second Iraq war to find fictitious mass-casualty weapons21, leading to the non-fictitious deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi’s and dozens of NATO soldiers but, so far, no politicians were injured, not even a paper-cut. The authors and architects were the political elite, namely Toni Blair and Alistair Campbell of the UK Labour party. Unlike the WMD, Blair & Campbell’s whereabouts are both currently known, yet they still walk the earth as free men.
The UK government nudge unit (2010s-2020s)
The nudge unit is the UK’s ‘manipulation of the public into obeying through fear’ department. They admit in publicly available documents that the general public didn’t fear the covid enough and didn’t love the jab enough so both had to be ‘sexed-up’ to hoodwink the public at their own expense22.
‘There are times when you do need [fear] to cut through… particularly if you think people are wrongly calibrated’ said David Halpern, Head of the Nudge Unit. The elites in this case - Halpern and his fellow board members - are not yet in prison.
Safe & effective covid jab (2020s)
This memeologous phrase was later shown to be the exact opposite, in both respects. The elites even put pressure on Webster to redefine the word vaccine in their dictionary, ‘1984’-style, to hide their obvious lie23. Read ‘FutureDad 18: Covid Part II - Lockdowns were an Attempted Communist Revolution’ and ‘FutureDad 35: Covid Part III - The Lies of Lockdown (LOL)’ for the special set of lies implemented around this time.
Destruction of the Nordstream 2 oil pipeline (2023)
This was blamed by Western political and media elites on the Russians; who were painted as crazy enough to sabotage their own lucrative supply of oil to Europe. An idiotic lie on the face of it, swallowed by the public and regurgitated on demand by current-thing enthusiasts.
A five second cui bono consideration puts this to sleep. The Biden administration had most to gain, financially and politically, from the pipeline’s destruction. They were next in line to replace Europe’s energy supply, and to do it in conjunction with Ukraine who were, and currently still are, at war with Russia24.
What to do
When cataloging and discovering these lies a pattern emerges. Observe that the distance they are in the past is directly related to the fullness of the truth understood of them now. Consequently, the lie has to be big and bold in the beginning for the liar to survive its decay. The inveterate liars in the government, media, and big corporations are mindful of the truth revelation trajectory. They know the lie has to be a whopper for confusion and doubt to persist long enough for them to move jobs or collect pensions.
How do you recognise a liar in the elites?
If what they say in public would sound fake and cringe-worthy if they said the same thing in private, then they are advertising and it’s a lie. If they say things which nourishes, fixes or serves their image as a good person, then they are advertising and it’s a lie. If they seem dedicated to helping anyone else but them, then they are advertising and it’s a lie.
What would the world look like without elites?
Saner, wealthier, safer and more free.
Can we get rid of them completely?
Absolutely not. It’s part of the human condition. We can only build smaller, decentralised societal structures with built-in counteracting defenses against the expected corruption. The US Founding Fathers did some of it, we have to do the rest. In the meantime, live simply, be sovereign, make yourself state-proof. I offer some practical solutions in many of my essays25.
Lies tend to crumble, they can’t prop each other up indefinitely. Rotting zombies leaning together eventually decay enough to collapse, as will eventually, the cathedral of lies we now live in.

I will not name them: I don’t need to name them. The internet is awash with claims and memes that even if true, it’s tiring and sloppy because it’s about the 21st most important problem facing Britain today and unsolvable, unlike the other 20.

Nice work
Is there a chance some of them are just ethically stalled at the age of three, unable to grasp the difference between truths and lies? “This is what I’d like the truth to be, so it is the truth.” I always figured that Trudeau’s biggest and most easily falsified whopper’s - e.g. “The story in the Globe is false!” - were because his egotism converted truths into mis/disinformation by whoever revealed them.
Edit: I guess that all fits in your psychologically impaired group.
